BEING THE HANDS AND FEET OF JESUS
Serving those in our communities in the name of Jesus!
WHAT IS GDOS?
A day when South Rock Christian Church will go out in teams to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our community! Painting, landscaping, carpentry, childcare, food preparation, prayer groups, hauling and so much more!
There will not be normal worship services at 9:00 and 10:30 on GDOS. Instead we will have one worship service at 9:00 for about 20 minutes. We will have a short message, worship songs, and communion then send you out to serve on projects.
In the past we have served at anywhere from 70-80 project sites with around 900 people! It's an amazing example of what a church community can do when we bond together and act in the name of Jesus to those around us.
WHO DO WE SERVE?
We are looking to serve anyone who cannot otherwise do the work for themselves. Elderly neighbors, single parents, families with a deployed parent, or anyone who may not be able to get to the project otherwise. We also serve schools, parks, and other community spaces to help Derby and the surrounding communities. Our general rule is the homeowners must live within 15 minutes of the church. Because we only have a set timeframe to get the work done, we don't want to spend the entire work time traveling to the site. However, we are open to special projects at distances further away.
PROJECT LEADERS
Every project needs a leader. Project leaders are VITAL to the success of GDOS. In addition to leading the team on GDOS itself, they have important preparation work to do as well as communication with the site owner and GDOS leadership.
Additional tasks for project leaders include:
- Attending a meeting two weeks prior to GDOS
- Contact the site owner to confirm work needing to be done and visit site prior to GDOS
- Contact your team to let them know what to bring and where to go
- Report back after the project is complete
